Windows Server 2008 R2 is the first Microsoft OS that is 64-bit only. Enhancements include new functionality for Active Directory, new virtualisation and manageability features, the release of IIS 7.5, and support for up to 256 logical processors.
It will be succeeded by Windows Server 2012 in late 2012.
