Rockstar Consortium is an organization for patent monetization, founded by a consortium that includes Apple and Microsoft for the purchase of patents of Nortel, which went bankrupt in 2009. The consortium also includes BlackBerry, Ericsson and Sony.

In October 2013, Rockstar initiated litigation against eight companies, including Google, Huawei, Samsung and other Android phone manufacturers, including Asustek, HTC, LG Electronics, Pantech and ZTE. In December Google filed a counterclaim against Rockstar.
In December 2014, Rockstar announced the sale of all of its patents to RPX Corporation for $ 900 million USD, concluding simultaneously all claims against all participants of the Open Handset Alliance.
