A graphical user interface (GUI) is a user interface that incorporates graphical elements, such as windows, icons, and buttons – unlike a command-line interface (CLI), which is text-based.
The first commercially available GUI was called "PARC," and was developed by Xerox for its 8010 Information System, released in 1981. Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs saw the interface during a tour at Xerox and had his team developed an operating system with a similar design – Apple's Mac OS was released in 1984, with Microsoft's first GUI-based operating system, Windows 1.0, releasing the following year.[1]
